Electronic toys
Circuit kits, walkie talkies, kids cameras, storybook projectors and torches. Battery toys chosen for whether they do something, rather than for how many lights they have on the front.
The rule that separates a good electronic toy from a drawer filler is whether the child does something or watches something happen. Everything grouped here asks for an input: a button pressed on purpose, a photograph framed, a circuit completed.

How to choose
Check the battery type before you buy. The difference between a toy that gets used and one that lives in a drawer is often a battery nobody keeps in the house.
Walkie talkies need two children and a building with something to walk around, and they are one of the few electronic toys that get children moving. Kids cameras are for the photographs a child takes rather than for the image quality, so buy for the freedom and expect a low resolution. Circuit kits are covered more fully in Steam.
